Best Friends’ SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program) offers two levels of assistance to pet owners in the Oklahoma City metro area: low income pet owners and the general public.
Low income pet owners are those receiving Medicaid, OKDHS or SSI (Supplemental Security Income) assistance and having proof of benefits such as an Oklahoma Health Care Authority card, Access card, or Notice of Award letter. Fees are $10 for cats and $20 for dogs. Rabies vaccinations are $5 and are only available at the time of surgery.
General Public SNAP: Pet owners who do not qualify for our Low-Income SNAP may receive assistance to have their pets spayed or neutered. Pet owners must show a need for SNAP services (i.e, household income, number of people in the household, information on pet to be spayed or neutered, and any other information that shows why SNAP assistance is needed). Fees are $35 for male cats, $60 for female cats, $70 for male dogs and $90 for female dogs. Email us at info@bestfriendsokc.org.
Best Friends works with veterinary clinics in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Midwest City, Mustang, Norman and Yukon. Ages at which pets may be spayed or neutered vary by clinic, and some clinics will spay or neuter pets as young as 8 weeks or weighing at least 2 pounds.
SNAP is only available for owned pets and is limited to four pets each year. SNAP will not cover feral or stray animals.
To receive a SNAP application, call Best Friends at 629-6795. The SNAP application is a two-part form and must be mailed. It cannot be faxed or emailed.
If your gross income is $35,000 or less and you do not qualify for SNAP’s low-income assistance, contact Volunteers for Animal Welfare’s SPOT Clinic in Oklahoma City at 405-606-8476 or the Second Chance Spay/Neuter Clinic in Norman at 405-329-7400. Fees are $35 for dogs, $25 for cats, $5 rabies vaccinations and $5 annual vaccinations.

Most of these programs are priced at $35 per dog and $25 per cat plus $5 for rabies. Many have a sliding scale in place for those unable to afford those prices. Sliding scale (below $35/ $25) is variable depending on available funds. Most programs require income eligibility. Most of these programs are staffed in all or part by volunteers, please allow up to 72 hours for response to calls for appointments. Appointments are necessary at all of these programs.
Many welcome feral cats, but we know of none able to assist with cost of feral colonies, so they are $25 per cat.
