Volunteer Opportunities
Best Friends of Shelter Pets has volunteer opportunities available in many areas.
Save-A-Pet Adoption Outreaches – Best Friends holds adoption outreaches usually on Saturdays at various PetSmart stores to find caring homes for cats and dogs in rescue groups, foster homes, veterinary clinics and animal shelters. Volunteers prepare adoption paperwork, assist potential adopters, and help with the pets.
Education - Volunteers present educational programs to children and adults on responsible pet ownership, bite prevention, pet overpopulation, and more.

Special Events - Volunteers help with many fun events including Best Friends' Festival of the Pet, Santa photos at PetSmart, gift wrapping at Borders, and more.
Office / Clerical - Volunteers help fold newsletters and assist with special mailings and other office-type work.
SNAP – Volunteers help our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program by calling pet owners who might benefit from our service and those whose applications have expired. Volunteers also help distribute SNAP brochures.

Information Tables – Volunteers staff information tables at various community events and provide information on Best Friends and our programs and services.
Board of Directors – We are seeking vibrant people who are interested in serving as Best Friends’ board members and helping Best Friends continue its growth in and service to our community.
Best Friends is also seeking committed volunteers who are interested in developing into leaders in different areas of our organization. Volunteers may assist in these areas even if they do not want to become a leader.
Adoption Outreach Coordinator: The Adoption Outreach Coordinator will contact rescue groups, foster homes, veterinary clinics and animal shelters that are interested in working with us to provide dogs and cats for each outreach.
Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator will contact volunteers who are interested in helping at our adoption outreaches to schedule them for our outreaches. This person may also coordinate volunteers for special events.
Petfinder Coordinator: The Petfinder Coordinator will maintain our Petfinder.com website by posting photos and information on pets from rescue groups, foster homes and veterinary clinics. The coordinator will also keep the site updated for any pet adoptions.
SNAP Applications Coordinator: The SNAP Applications Coordinator will get requests for applications off of our voicemail on a regular basis (every two to four days), enter this information in an Excel spreadsheet, and mail applications. This is our most time consuming coordinator position since we receive an average of 160 calls a month, and some calls require additional work. Time required for this position will increase as SNAP grows.
Grants Coordinator: The Grants Coordinator will prepare and submit grant applications to various local and national foundations.
Voicemail Coordinator: The Voicemail Coordinator will check our voicemail (except for SNAP calls) on a regular basis (every two to four days), enter the call information in an Excel spreadsheet, and return calls as needed.
